Reverend Thomas F. Taylor Elected President/Ceo of Presbyterian Foundation
Jeffersonville, IN (July 7, 2010) – By unanimous vote, Committee
18 (Board of Pensions, Foundation and Presbyterian Publishing) of the 219th General Assembly recommended that The Reverend Thomas F. Taylor be confirmed as President and Chief Executive Officer of the Presbyterian Foundation. The Assembly will vote on the recommendation later this week. Taylor has most recently served as the Deputy Executive Director for Mission at the General Assembly Mission Council (GAMC) where he oversaw the work of over 700 Presbyterians in over 100 countries around the globe. Prior to joining the GAMC, he served as senior pastor at Glenkirk Presbyterian Church, in Glendora, California and senior pastor at Church of the Valley, in Apple Valley, California. His early career began as a practicing attorney in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Marcia Porter, Chair of the Board of Trustees said, “The Board and Staff of the Presbyterian Foundation appreciate the recommendation of Tom Taylor as President and CEO by the Committee. We support Tom in his leadership of the Foundation’s ministry. We believe that his professional credentials, his experience as an attorney, minister, and Deputy Executive Director of the GAMC, and his love for the Church and Christ’s mission will provide steadfast guidance for the Foundation’s work”. She added, “In addition, Tom’s gifts will allow him to effectively communicate with individuals and institutions how the Presbyterian Foundation can support them in their mission initiatives.”
“Over the last five years, the generosity of faithful Presbyterians throughout the United States has enabled the Foundation to make available more than $385 million for the mission and ministry of the Church,” Taylor said. “I am excited to see how we can maintain this trend and encourage Presbyterians to continue to give to advance Christ’s mission.”
Taylor was ordained in 1995 and is a member in good standing with the Presbytery of San Gabriel. He earned his Ph.D. from Fuller Theological Seminary in Intercultural Studies; a law degree from the University Of Illinois College Of Law; M.Div. from Yale University Divinity School; and his undergraduate degree from the University of Illinois. He has taught at Fuller Theological Seminary, Azusa Pacific University, and Salt Lake Seminary and was a visiting lecturer in Religious Studies at the University of Illinois at Urbana. Taylor practiced law with Snell, Wilmer & Snow, and Christensen & Martineau, both in Salt Lake City, Utah.
